South Dakota artist’s Inexperienced-winged Teal wins Junior Duck Stamp contest

A proficient younger artist from South Dakota has taken prime honors on the Nationwide Junior Duck Stamp Artwork Contest. A Inexperienced-winged Teal portray by 15-year-old Madison Grimm, will grace the 2022-2023 Junior Duck Stamp, which raises funds to teach and have interaction our nation’s youth in wildlife and wetlands conservation and out of doors recreation. That is Madison’s third nationwide win.

A panel of 5 judges selected the entry, painted in acrylic, from amongst best-of-show entries from 50 states, Washington, D.C. and two U.S. territories.

“I’m so excited to announce the highest winners of this distinctive contest,” stated Martha Williams, director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. “The Junior Duck Stamp Program encourages college students to discover their pure world by science, artwork, and writing, share their present with others, and nurture a lifelong love of nature and the outside.”

College students in kindergarten by grade twelve take part of their annual state Junior Duck Stamp Program by their faculty, dwelling, artwork studio, or after-school group, or from a refuge, park, or nature middle. After studying about wetlands, waterfowl, and wildlife conservation, they categorical their studying by a drawing or portray of a duck, goose, or swan.

The highest piece of artwork within the nation – chosen at this annual competitors – is featured on the Junior Duck Stamp, gross sales of which help instructional packages and actions that nurture our subsequent technology of conservationists.

The Federal Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Program started in 1989 as an extension of the Migratory Bird Searching and Conservation Stamp, generally referred to as the Duck Stamp. The primary nationwide Junior Duck Stamp artwork contest was held in 1993. The stamp encourages college students to discover their pure world, take part in out of doors recreation actions, and be taught wildlife administration ideas. Roughly 2,000 Junior Duck Stamps are bought yearly for $5 every.

The second place winner is Catheryn Liang, 15, from Texas, with an acrylic portray of Canada Geese.

Third place went to 17-year-old London Peterson from Oklahoma who entered a Frequent Goldeneye painted in acrylic.

Along with the artwork contest, a Junior Duck Stamp Conservation Message Contest encourages college students to precise in phrases the spirit of what they’ve discovered by classroom discussions, analysis, and planning for his or her Junior Duck Stamp Contest entries. “This yr’s winner is 17-year-old Alexa Jochmann, of Wisconsin, along with her message: “Wetland conservation helps hold our world as colourful and numerous because the geese that stay in them!”
